General Dentistry

Maintaining a healthy mouth and beautiful smile requires more than just twice-daily brushings and regular flossing. It is important to schedule routine general and preventative exams to keep your smile looking and feeling its best. Our practice offers general care that includes regular oral examinations and cleanings. Don’t wait until a painful, and costly problem develops. With a regular, healthy regimen of good oral hygiene, you can avoid future problems down the road.

Whatever your current dental condition, Dr. Sarah Paxton, Dr. Katie Monash and staff can help with quality general, cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

We have the experience and knowledge to restore broken-down or decaying teeth, using a variety of treatment procedures and advanced technology. After a comprehensive consultation and examination, we choose the treatment path that will work best for your condition and budget.

Dental restoration uses procedures such as crowns, bridges, dental implants, root canals, dentures and porcelain veneers. It also consists of ensuring that your periodontal health is good and your bite is healthy and not wearing down your teeth.

Our dentists have considerable advanced education in the latest procedures and use state-of-the-art technology for a better treatment outcome and maximum comfort and efficiency. For major dental work or complex procedures, we offer oral sedation to relax you while you receive your vital dental work.

Saving Your Teeth

If your teeth are in poor condition we have different options to help you save them. Expert periodontal work can salvage some situations, as well as root canals to save decayed teeth, and even teeth straightening can help.

Using an intraoral camera, we can capture images of your teeth and gums.

Find out exactly what you need to get the healthy, beautiful smile you deserve! Our consultations are very comprehensive and include:

  • Digital x-rays
  • Comprehensive exam
  • Intraoral camera for full view of your mouth
  • Models of your teeth and smile

You will have the opportunity to review different treatment options and get your questions answered. We want you to be comfortable with your treatment plan before we begin your smile makeover journey.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction—Major Dental Work

Sometimes the condition in the mouth has deteriorated to the point that all the teeth need to be replaced or restored. This requires good planning and a very good understanding of the dynamics of the mouth and the procedures needed for a full-mouth reconstruction.

Dr. Paxton and Dr. Monash have the advanced training and experience to reconstruct your teeth to its former, or often, better state.

While dentures are an option, these days the alternatives are many and many of them are affordable. Dental implants are one alternative, but with new technology we can combine dental implants with dentures or bridges for beautiful and durable teeth.

Major dental work doesn’t need to be arduous. We offer many ways for you to relax, including oral sedation. Sedation dentistry lets your relax during even the most lengthy procedures. Oral sedation is safe and a very good option for patients who need major dental work.

Bridges

If you have missing or misaligned teeth, the long-term consequences can mean loss of additional teeth, increased susceptibility to gum disease and loss of bone structure. Dental bridges might be the right option for you. Dental bridges can effectively close the gap between missing teeth, and create a durable, realistic-looking artificial tooth.

There are several types of dental bridges.  Many people often benefit from a traditional bridge consisting of an artificial tooth held together by two crowns The crowns are secured to neighboring teeth to hold the bridge in place. In order to accommodate the crowns, a small amount of tooth structure is removed from the teeth surrounding the gap. The crowns are custom-made to fit the new shape of your teeth, and the bridge is securely bonded into place. The final result is a long- lasting and strong restoration that looks completely natural.

Resin Restoration

Cavities no longer need to be filled with unattractive amalgam fillings. Modern restorative dentistry provides our patients with a much more aesthetically pleasing solution. Tooth-colored fillings made of durable resin can be bonded to your teeth for a durable, and natural-looking effect. Resin restorations are virtually undetectable and easy to apply.

Resin restorations offer several advantages over traditional metal fillings. Because only the decayed portion of the tooth is affected during the procedure, and natural tooth structure is preserved. The result is a stronger, more natural looking restoration. Resin fillings also provide a better seal than metal fillings, helping to avoid further damage to the tooth.

Periodontal Diseases

Periodontal disease in Michigan and throughout the country is a very common problem. It can lead to more than just an unsightly smile—it can cause loss of teeth and, eventually, if left untreated, serious health problems. Early warning signs of periodontal disease include red, swollen, bleeding gums. If periodontal disease is caught early, we can help you reverse the damage, or, if caught in the later stages, we can employ one of our cosmetic or restorative dentistry procedures to restore your mouth to a healthy, attractive state.
